How much money do you make from your Android application?

  1. Age 22 years
  2. Education– B.Tech Student
  3. App Earnings – 2-3 $ per day
  4. App Age – 40 days
Here goes my story -
I started learning Android in my second year of college. I have enjoyed making apps but never thought of publishing it on play store until my final year. Being a developer I was quite fond of rooting my phone to get latest version of OS that was in market and realised a root checker app was must for those who root their phones.
Just couple of months back, I spent 3-4 hours each day for a week and built a root checking app. It took my around 30 hours to build the app. I decided to launch to play store. At first, I never thought the app would get popular, but it started getting downloads and people were liking it. I felt motivated with the positive comments. Currently, the app gets 300+ downloads daily it will cross 5000 downloads soon.
Here is my app link (do give it a try and rate if you like : ) -
Edit -
I got a very interesting question from Parth Anand and Aritra Bhattacharyyathat is worth answering and I think it would help my fellow developers-
Q- There are so many root checking apps. How did you manage to get enough downloads?
Ans- There are a lot of root checking apps on play store. Although my app was better than most such apps in the category and gave the most accurate information, introducing users to the app was a major challenge. Below are the growth hacks/tricks that I used to get downloads -
  1. Optimise the title & description for the most high traffic keywords. We call this App Store Optimisation (ASO). I learnt a lot of this from Quora :)
  2. Requesting my friends, family members for initial downloads and to get ratings. This helped generating initial traffic that further helps ASO
  3. I identified and targeted groups of people on Facebook & Google+ who were interested in Android, Android Rooting, etc. I was helping people who were struggling to root their devices and then suggested them to try my app. This really helped.
  4. Posting the app to some basic app review sites such as AppHunt. People liked the app instantly after downloading it once.
And, that’s it, with these tricks, my daily downloads were gradually increasing. It scaled from 10–20 downloads/day to 300+ downloads/day today without any paid marketing. I hope this helps :)
